ABOUT TRPNYC
Founded in 2015 by Company Director, Producer Johnnie Cruise Mercer, Creative Director Torian Ugworji, and Process Manager, Shanice Mason, TheREDprojectNYC (TRPNYC) is a multidisciplinary ensemble of artists dedicated to the study of movement philosophy, and its use towards building communal spaces for black/other process, documentation, and investigation. At its root, TRPNYC is a company comprised of five branches; The Movement Ensemble (a rotating team of movement, theater, and performance artists), The TRPNYC Band (a tribe of sound makers, instrumentalists, and music producers), Community w/TRPNYC (a curated set of happenings/events centered around communional healing, resting, and joy), TRPNYC’s Visual Makers (a collaborative group of media, film, and visual artists), and the TRPNYC Think-Making Lab (a series of process forward labs dedicated to learning, and collaboration in partnership with other like minded institutions/organizations).
Currently the company is working through a multi-year, multidisciplinary project titled, “A Process Anthology: The Decade from Hell, and the Decade that Followed Suite.” A ten-chaptered journey led by Company Director Johnnie Cruise Mercer, the project finds its grounding in the ensemble's dedication to creating space for black process/imagination. The memoirs, happenings, and collaborations within this documentary based project focuses on deconstructing the contemporary, retrospectively engaging shared memories from the years 2000-2020. The conclusion of “A Process Anthology: The Decade from Hell and The Decade that Followed Suite '', is marked by the creation of two collaborative DocuEpicWorks, both looking at the two decades intimately. “The Decade from Hell…” (shedding the nostalgia of the early 2000’s) is set to premiere in June 2023 at Gibney. “…and the Decade that Followed Suite.” (recapping the decade leading up to the unprecedented events of 2020) will follow years later with a Summer 2026 premiere!

We are an ensemble of doers, makers that believe in the thorough reevaluation of the human super ego. Through consistent reflection, we are dedicated to listening as spiritual research. Actively responding to and with our bodies, we are dedicated to building communal possibility through social, energetic, and economic structure building. We, as an artistic ensemble, are deeply invested in facilitating meta-physical experiences that challenge our current conscious reality, embracing a process that engages practices that are both perspicacious and forever expansive. We believe that movement, in its true form, cannot be contained. We believe that movement travels with time, with people, and that when directed can bridge community into authentic voice, subconscious freedom, and renewed actuality. We are the movement that echoes from us, conduits of revolution. We are vessels holding our historical foundations and legacies. As makers, as deconstructionists of our current time, we are (both on and off stage) interrogators of the contemporary, and instigators towards the future, our post-contemporary existences.
